Upcoming: The Void

Hybrid Stage Project's "The Void" (Design: Mark Daniel Cohen)

Opening at the Incubator Arts Project next Thursday, 7 October, the Hybrid Stage Project’s ambitious The Void is inspired by the paintings and a novel of early twentieth-century artist and writer Alfred Kubin. From the press release: “An Illustrator falls into his void-mind while attempting to frame his own reality, and there finds two unconscious dual forces are waiting for him: inseparable yet opposite sisters wrestling with each other endlessly. One sister attempts to shock the Illustrator into ‘knowing,’ the other attempts to confront him with the impossibility of ‘knowing,’ initiating an epic battle between the two for dominance. The Illustrator’s survival depends upon engaging these two forces, eternally charged and threatening his complete annihilation.” Written and conceived by Fulya Peker and Deborah Wallace, the production features Peker, Wallace and Mark Jaynes, and runs through 16 October at the Incubator Arts Project, St. Mark’s Church in-the-Bowery, 131 East 10th Street. Tickets are now available here.

And a brief word to note the seventh anniversary of the premiere of Superfluities Redux, which debuted on the World Wide Web on 1 October 2003.
